Relocation
Hi Monkeys,
I am a first year associate at a EB and have been with my bank for more than three years. I am looking for opportunities to be relocated to another country within my bank where I took my bachelors and M&A activities are much more active. My bank encourages international mobility. I am not sure whether the other team in the other country I’d like to join has any need for additional members though, but I have worked with them several times.
I would love your advice on who I am supposed to speak to and in what order, given that no one currently knows I have this idea in mind. Should I speak to my line manager first before I reach out to HR and the team in the other part of the world? How should I avoid the scenario where my attempted relocation fails and makes my boss think I am desperate to leave and has a negative impact on my reputation on my current team? Should I also reach out to other analysts and associates with relocation or international assignment experience?
Thanks in advance!
Most banks have program managers in either a management or COO department. Would start there, also HR not a bad choice.
Would frame it as exploring the possibility and would avoid line manager for initial conversations since they could retaliate depending on how psycho they are
Thanks for the prompt reply!
I may start with the global mobility team. Maybe also the other guys with relocation experience (I get along well with a few but am not sure if they can keep it to themselves)?
Having seen other guys being relocated around the world and taking leave to do MBA and other stuff, my boss actually asked me whether I’d like to explore some possibility and said she would be fine (not a formal conversation though) a few months ago, but I said I was happy back then.
