Reneged after verbal offer
Folks, I could use your perspective on something. I received an associate lateral verbal offer from BB1 with a deadline to respond by tomorrow. The issue is that I just started the interview process with BB2, which is the firm I’m more interested in.
Would it be better to ask BB1 for a short deadline extension (though they’ve already waited a week), or to verbally accept the offer and use the time it takes to receive the written offer to see how things develop with BB2?
Thanks!
Just say yes to BB1 and renege later if you get BB2. Unless BB1 is BofA and BB2 is UBS, either bank would fire you in a heartbeat if it improved thier profitability.
Thanks. Both are tier 1 (GS, MS, JPM) but prefer BB2 for its location. I'm concerned that if I renege, it could look bad, especially in the niche industry.
