Rescind Offer - Background Check

Regarding the situation of the guy in the post that called his fellow intern a f** and got no return offer, everyone was giving him/her advice for FT recruiting. However, if he/she managed to secure a FT offer at another bank, would the fact that he/she didn't get a return offer (and more importantly WHY he/she didn't get  a return offer) show up in his background check? Would the new firm call bankers at the old firm after extending an offer? Genuinely curious

A background check is

  • Did he work there from date A to B
  • Can you confirm his job title

And that's all

It never happens, since background checks are not conducted by the banks but outsourced. He didn't get fired; not getting a return offer means nothing. If they wanted to know they'd just ask him during the interview, and even then he'd be able to lie and bullshit some excuse. He would get away with it assuming the people interviewing don't know the people working at the other bank.
