SA 25 Bg check

Guys just have a quick question about SA back ground check. I have an internship listed on my resume that was unpaid. The reputation of the firm deteriorated since I concluded there and it’s kinda a sketchy firm. Not sure if my supervisor would vouch or even reply to BG checks. I got the work product I did and a few email exchanges. Should I just leave it out when going through BG check? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Navigating background checks with tricky past internships can indeed be a bit of a tightrope walk. Given your situation with an unpaid internship at a firm that now has a questionable reputation, here's a strategic approach based on insights from the Wall Street Oasis discussions:

  1. Documentation Is Key: You mentioned having work product and email exchanges from your time at the internship. This documentation can be crucial if questions arise during the background check. It serves as proof of your engagement and the responsibilities you handled, which is beneficial if the firm or your supervisor does not respond to verification requests.

  2. Honesty and Transparency: When it comes to background checks, honesty is always the best policy. If asked directly about the internship, provide a straightforward explanation of your role, the nature of your work, and the reason for its inclusion on your resume. Highlight what you learned and how it's relevant to the position you're applying for.

  3. Consider the Value Added: Evaluate how much value this internship adds to your resume. If the experience is directly relevant to the job you're applying for and showcases skills or achievements that strengthen your application, it might be worth including. However, if the potential for negative association outweighs the benefits, it may be prudent to leave it off.

  4. Prepare for Possible Outcomes: Be prepared for the possibility that the firm might not respond to verification requests or might not provide a positive vouch for your time there. In such cases, your documentation and the ability to articulate the value of your experience will be particularly important.

  5. Seek Advice: If you're still uncertain, consider seeking advice from mentors, career advisors, or even forums like Wall Street Oasis. Sometimes, a third-party perspective can provide clarity and help you make a more informed decision.

Remember, the goal of the background check is to verify the accuracy of your resume and ensure you're a trustworthy candidate. As long as you're honest and can substantiate your claims with evidence, you should be able to navigate this situation effectively.

had a similar experience with an unpaid internship. They couldn't reach the company and I received an email from my bank to confirm whether it was paid or unapid. Turns out it does not matter for BG checks if its unpaid. I would still list it tho if they do not specify

All up to you but I wouldnt try to hide anything especially if it was on your resume. Again, unpaid internships dont come up at all during bg checks, and what is there for you to lose
