I was just notified by my boss that I am going to have to take the Series 79.
I have been working in the real estate capital markets/finance area for 5 years and do not see a major use for the license; but someone in the office needs to hold the certification and that responsibility fell on me.
I was hoping to see if the forum had some insight into best study materials (I am planning on using STC), best study practices, strategies, or other resources to provide to me and other monkeys prepping for this exam.
I also was told by a close friend who is a lender and recently passed the 79 to take the course. Is an in person class worth it? My company will pay for it - so money is not the main issue. I just want to know if it is worth the 2-3 days spent out of the office.

I am currently studying for the Series 7 Exam through the study materials provided by STC. STC has twelve 130 question quizzes. The part I find frustrating is that MAJORITY of the questions were never found in the material. Does anyone agree? I take a quiz, get a 46%... then I study what I got wrong... jump to 65-75%.... then take a brand new quiz, and again, get a 45-50% because much of it is stuff that was never taught in the guide. My exam is not for another month so I have time, but its hard to gauge my performance. When I do get a positive score the second time around, I make sure its not due to memorization however, so that's a plus.
What is the best recommendation? Just keep doing the questions over and over and over? Ideally, I'd like to take a quiz and score a good percentage the FIRST TIME AROUND - but I find that there is missing material. Am I the only one?
Keep doing tests and review the material afterwards I think this is the best way. Once you finish the material just do a lot of practice questions. The best way to practice is by doing tons of practice questions. FYI - Most practice questions in the quizzes are harder than the questions in the real exam.
Im hitting 60-70% on quizzes and practice tests so far.
I do really think the only way to pass this test is to take practice tests over and over.
Glad it's not memorization because that obviously won't help you with the conceptual questions on exam day. I used STC to prep for the 7 and I passed first attempt after about 4 weeks of study. STC is far and away the best material to prep with, Is there a particular portion you're consistently weak on? I'm sitting for CFA L3 in about a week, I wish it was the S7 lol.
Complex Options Strategies and the questions revolving around Margin. I need to do some brushing up. Are the questions similar on the exam?
The way to pass the series 7 exam, like any exam, is to understand the concepts. If one is scoring low on tests,it means they did not understand the concepts and that person should re-read some or all of the material.
