Should I keep searching? or quit it for now?

Hello WSO

I am currently a senior majoring in economics at a semi-target (Michigan,UVA,UCLA) with low GPA, around 3.2. I have been doing resume drops at my school and landed couple of Finance Rotational Program and couple of Financial Advisor roles.

I have more desire to make a career in banking more than anyone else, but I know previous work experience and GPA aren't going to assure me the position.

So my question is.... is it possible for me to land a FT offer from boutiques or MM banks with my resume? I know FT for BB and big MM banks are finishing up their recruiting process, so is it time for me to give up for now and take the corporate rotational program offer? or should I keep searching for opportunities?

Thank you WSO

Your resume is not terrible ... I would help you out but my firm has already stopped taking resumes for FT.

My suggestion would be to network with small boutique banks and try to trade up later (~1 year) if other firms need a lateral hire. That's what the analyst sitting next to me did. If you "really want to do banking" that's what you will do.

I actually turned down a offer from GE in the FMP program. If that is one of your rotational options take that. My friend now works full time for GE Capital and loves it.

I was in the same position as you going into FT recruiting last yr. Don't give up.

Michigan alums should be your priority at boutiques and MM banks in Chicago and NYC.

I've been helped so much, I'm going to go out of my way to help anyone that went to my school.

Curious, why didn't you get a BofA FT offer? Most (a lot) of their FT hires are from their interns and especially PWM.
