So How Does One FT Recruit??

Current sophomore at a non-target school - fortunate enough to have secured an internship at a top EB (CVP/EVR/PJT) this recruitment cycle.

In all honesty I'm not sure if full-time recruiting is a good play, given that no one at my school tends to do it. However, I did want to hear any thoughts from those who have.

Given my background (non-target, strong EB internship for 2027, high GPA, relevant past experiences), how feasible is it for me to land a strong buy-side opportunity (e.g., Megafund, UMM) or a top technology banking gig (GS TMT, Q)?

Also, how early should I start networking? And how much more competitive is the process for FT positions?

Sorry for the barrage of questions. Would appreciate any insights or clarity on this matter. Thank you in advance.

Definitely worth it if you are commited, just keep it lowkey and don't tell your peers. Not uncommon for UMM, MF, or top IB groups to take FT recruits - especially from and EB. It's your life, you don't want to look back wishing you would've done something different.

Fully agree with your last point! A couple of questions, though:

  • Do you have any idea of FT PE Timelines or IB Timelines, or does it vary firm to firm?
  • How do I go about interviewing during the summer while I am working the internship? Would I just say I'm going to lunch or something along those lines?
  • What does networking look like for FT opportunities? Am I getting on calls before my summer internship, talking about how I'm very interested in x firm? I feel like that's a bad look

Sorry about the barrage of questions lol, no one at my school has experience FT recruiting / much banking experience at all, so it's hard to get a feel of what this should look like
