So what's December like for you FO guys? It's interesting in BO . . .

As I've posted here before, I'm BO at a BB, and generally having a great time with it. I even did a Q&A on managing my Summer Analysts if anyone wants to look up my post history.

So what's December like for you guys in FO? I'm genuinely curious because it's been interesting in BO. There's a holiday event every day (contests, free hot cider, department lunches, company gift, etc, etc). Some groups are done with their work for the year, so they're basically sitting around. Some people have so much vacation time left that they're taking most of December off. Like they came back for one week after Thanksgiving and then not due to report again until 2019. Other people have such a light workload that they work the morning and then spend the rest of the day socializing. If you check people's calendars, you'd have an easier time going to hunt for a samsquanch than finding someone in the office after the 20th. Every call I'm on is basically, "let's just table this until the new year . . . "

It's actually put a nice, friendly air in the office because people are constantly stopping by your desk just to say hello or otherwise burn up time. You walk around and half the floor is basically just shooting the shit with the other half! Hate to say it guys, but the term "easy street" comes to mind. I can see why there are career BO folks, no question about it.

Is FO the same way?

Funniest

I hear I get both the 24th and the 25th off, and I am so dang excited about it

Maybe things will get really wild and I'll be able to head home by 5 on the 23rd

I work in technology at a Large multi-national bank (not BB). It’s been downright ridiculous here. I haven’t seen or talked to my manager in over a month. He has canceled our last 3 bi-weekly meetings and he hasn’t bothered to explain why or reschedule. I think the guy might be going through a mid-life crisis or something, idk who knows. So many people are out on vacation that we’ve pretty much put a halt on all our projects. I’ve been working from home (watching TV with my laptop volume on max to hear emails/pings) pretty much every day since mid November. There are some days where I’ve really tried my luck too. I once went to a casino 1.5 hrs away and used my phone to log on so that I show as available to my coworkers. Got a few messages and had to jump on a call that i ran to my car for, but aside from that, went pretty damn smooth haha. I think I will get back into work mode around second week of January.

Currently a summer analyst at a LMM family office which makes private equity style investments. The CEO is on a family holiday and the VP / head of asset management is on a 'business trip' back to his hometown to 'evaluate potential deals' - meaning the analyst team basically has nothing to do. We're running through some irrelevant due diligence, but are having long lunches as a team and are leaving around 3:00 pm each day. We won't come in after the 22nd - apparently this is typical of the fund around December time.

Edit: For reference I am in Australia, hence a summer analyst during December (through to February).

How are you a summer analyst in December?

You have so much to learn, little one. Spend your holidays getting to know Julian, Ricky and Bubbles.
