Spring Semester Internships
I have recently signed on at a BB fulltime for IBD, but am graduating a semester early. Part of the contract stipulates no work at another financial services firm without compliance approval.
I'm planning on working after December until I start in July, but was wondering 1)if anyone had any past experience on what could pass as an acceptable finance internships 2) how companies will react to only working for 5-6 months and 3) what other quality non-finance internships/jobs there are that could still look pretty solid on my resume (is consulting considered part of financial services?)
Thanks.
Not to answer a question with a question, but why do you want a spring internship so badly if you already locked in a BB IB FT position? B school, other positions, etc, won't care all that much about your internships once you've worked for 1-2 years FT. Internships are best utilized to land a FT position, once you've got the FT position an additional spring semester internship isn't really going to do much for you long term. I would recommend you do something non-finance related or nothing at all for your last semester and just enjoy this time of relaxation - once you start IB FT that abundance of FT will quickly become a distant memory.

I would also suggest to take the time off and have some fun. But if you want to work to earn money, then choose whatever job you want. But it won't matter for your resume after you complete 2 years at a BB.
Dude, take some time off. Like BoB said the internships aren't going to prove that useful in the long run. If anything, find a place to volunteer and do some good for the world, at least this will add to a future B-school application. Another option would be to study for the GMAT if you have the time. Assuming you are likely to attend B school in the next 5 years it might be the easiest way to get the best score possible.

Err .. maybe he wants to work for the money? Not everyone has a 6+ figure trust fund.
This is true, however, he didn't mention anything about money, just that he wanted something that could boost his resume. If it was about money then he could just find a BS part-time job that isn't going to conflict with the stipulations in his contract.
PS, if it is about money I feel his pain as I don't even have a 1 figure trust fund

if its about the money go work at a bar or something. You are going to be living the IBD life starting this summer, so go get a fun job that isn't soul crushing.
