S&T to IB coverage group

Is it possible to transfer from sales and trading position to a traditional investment banking coverage group? If so after how long on the job? Are most BBs supportive of this process? How hard is the lateral interview/placement process? Has anyone been able to do this? Please share story.

Of course it is POSSIBLE - I've seen all sorts of backgrounds end up in IB.  Whether or not it is likely will come down to how well-regarded you are within your current group (you will need their support) and how much networking you've done with people in the IB coverage group so you can tell them your story and why you think it's a good fit.  You'll have to prove that you're capable of getting through an IB interview as well, when the time comes.  If you're just blindly applying through your company's portal, you may or may not get a look in.
