Starting salary at a small investment bank in NYC?

I go to Baruch College, I'm a sophomore but I'll graduate with a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA and I'll make sure to have a lot of experience and extracurriculars. I honestly don't think its going to be that possible to get an analyst position at a bulge investment bank since its sooooo competitive, so I was wondering what is starting salary as an analyst at a smaller investment bank. Also any tips as to what looks best on the resume for someone who wants to do investment banking in terms of work experience as well as activities?...Thanks

Boutique I worked at last summer paid same salary as BBs and around a 20% discount on bonus compared to street.

I wouldn't say getting into a BB would be impossible with your credentials. Mine were similar my sophomore year, and I was pretty successful for internship recruiting, but a lot depends on what you do this summer.

Work at a boutique/MM IB in NYC. You'll have to do some legwork in identifying the shops (do a search on this forum - I posted a list not too long ago), but they shouldn't be terribly difficult to get provided that you are willing to work for little to no money.

If you can get this internship your sophomore summer, you should be very well positioned going into your junior year provided you maintain your GPA and have 1-2 strong ECs. Also, I'm not sure if your school is a target or a non-target, but if it's a non-target, I would start identifying key alums at banks you would like to work and doing informationals. People are a lot more likely to help you next year if they have known you for a year as opposed to 1-2 months.

Interesting...I'm a sophomore/junior at Baruch as well. Are you in the Investment Banking Club? I'm not an officer, but I try to participate in many of their events. They are having a couple of really helpful things this semester, and even if they can't help you for this summer, there is always next year. It's hard to get in IB (especially from Baruch), but almost everyone involved with IBC has interned or will intern/work for all the BBs, so it can be done.
