Stay in 1 bank or changing banks?
Say you want to be a career banker, what are the pros & cons or staying in 1 bank for a relatively long time vs changing banks occasionally say every 3-4 years?
Would moving to a different bank, same team, be beneficial to your career as you can gain more perspectives on the same role?
The sense I’ve gotten from networking/seeing senior changes at my firm is that a big reason why people move around is stagnation at their old firm/growth opps at a new firm. Senior people want to be somewhere where they can grow out their own niche (that’s how they make their money) and sometimes they can’t do that due to a variety of factors (e.g. the head of the group controlling all the business).
Also, senior changes usually come with pay bumps/bonuses/promotions, (especially Associate>VP, seems super common) and if you are trying to be a career banker obviously getting promoted earlier is better.
