Strategies for the application process

One more quick question. As far as applying for summer internships, is it more effective to submit a large amount of applications (such as 25-30 or so) or to target a select 8-10 firms that you might know a little about and that you're really interested in??

I've heard that you stand a better chance applying to companies whose info sessions you've attended; if you know someone at the firm; have some background knowledge of the firm or otherwise have a connection there. But you're right when you say to apply to your top target schools plus a bunch more in order to spread a wide net. For some reason my career center seemed to think the 30 drop, 2 interview strategy wasnt the way to go..I dont know why

Spread a wide net, but if you are a strong candidate and know what you want to do, only apply for that division in each firm since many banks only allow you to have a superday with one division. I was screwed by a few companies this recruiting season where I did well enough to move on for multiple divisions but did better in the interview for my second choice. Then you're in the unfortunate and awkward situation where you want to interview with your top choice but you still want to express strong interest with your second choice so you get an offer.

nowayExplain to me how submitting 8-10 is ever a better strategy than submitting 25

if you are a good to great candidate and know what you want.
