suspended after finishing SA internship

I did a SA internship and got a FT offer, but got a disciplinary suspension from school (this will be noted on transcript) which changed my graduation timeline. Disclosed it to HR, since that's what my career services told me to do, and asked if i could defer the offer and they said no. HR told me that my only option would be to apply again in the future. Am i screwed for future opportunities with that firm? I did network with a few of the ppl i worked with after talking to HR, but haven't done so recently. Should i start networking again/start reaching out to ppl i worked with? also, how will the suspension look to future recruiters? Is IB/finance no longer a possiblity?

if you got a FT offer, then you must have a relationship with some of the senior people in the group that gave you the offer. Skip HR...you never should have brought them into the loop in the 1st place. Talk to the $$...tell them what happened (depending on how well you know the person, you might have an interesting story to tell). Tell them the facts...it was stupid...now here is the situation. Then say, "since my graduation has been pushed back, can i start in your group next year?" The idea being, if you give them a funny story, they will remember you for next year. You don't want to come off as a bumbling idiot...but everybody did stupid stuff during college (my best friend is an MD in banking running a group, and he did some fucked up shit when he was in college...so these guys can relate...but they also want to know that you understand it was stupid, and you've learned your lesson that its time to become a responsible adult, rather than a hard partying college kid). This is a fine line to thread. If you can do it...then you should be ok.

Skip HR completely if possible...always.

just google it...you're welcome
