Don't think there is a rule like that. I've interviewed with all the banks you mentioned + a couple of EBs (Laz / EVR / PWP) after finishing my 1st year at a 'tier 3' bank. I just cleared a bit over the year mark at the time.
With that being said, this was peak COVID / height of deal flow so firms were desperate for any sort of experienced analyst talent.
Agreed that you can do it from another bank, but I haven't been able to find any instances of people lateraling internally. Have you seen that before?
Sorry, missed that part. I've seen it happen from friends you mentioned but as you pointed out typically more closer to the 2 year mark.
But have seen cases where people do it after 1 year (rarely less), not sure how one were to navigate that though
Really depends on the bank. Some are fine but some (...GS...) are not chill about internal laterals.
It also depends on hiring needs - in this market, you'd probably need to have someone from your target group leave for a spot to open up.
Do you know why GS doesn’t usually allow lateral after one year?
It's just GS wide, they are not as encouraging about internal mobility as other banks
I did that. Internal transferred to another team at a BB one year into the job. Was a super risky process.
Any chance you could tell me about the process? you’re the only person I’ve heard who has done it and I feel pretty strongly about doing it. Thanks.
