Target Schools - Rising junior with an engineering major/econ minor

Hi, I am a sophomore(rising junior) engineering major/econ minor at Michigan and currently have a 3.5 - 3.6 gpa. Since I already missed the fall transfer deadline, I am thinking about repeating a year and transferring to other business/econ programs.

I wanna get some opinions on if you guys think it would be worth it though, as in, if the following programs be a significant upgrade in terms of opportunities available in ibanking, I mean compared to Michigan Engineering if I stick it out. If they are, by how much? A wide margin? a bit? just a little?

The programs I am considering: Northwestern Econ Cornell Econ/AEM Cal Business/Econ Duke Econ Chicago Econ

As you say, you've missed all of the transfer deadlines. I think transferring, especially if it involves a repeated year, would be a waste - none of those schools are a massive step up on Michigan. If you do do it, I definitely wouldn't do Northwestern or Cal. Something I would consider if you do decide to transfer though is, rather than repeat a full year, take your fall and do a full semester internship - doubt you could do one with a bank, but you could ask some boutiques. Where you will find opportunities though is the government - working at the Fed for a semester could make your transition in focus more legitimate and explainable. I believe most schools require four full semesters to graduate, but if you apply for spring entry and get in you can probably make it out in three if you want (or have the advantage of an extra requiting season if you prefer to stay). That's what I'd do at any rate, if you decide to leave UMich. I'd stay though - maybe make that econ minor a major as well

bearcatsanymore insights?

If your GPA is in mid-3 range, it won't make any difference transferring out to the schools you listed -- it makes some difference if you transfer to top schools like Harvard. From your standpoint of view, it's really not worth it. Michigan is good enough.

"If your GPA is in mid-3 range, it won't make any difference transferring out to the schools you listed --"

What do you mean by that? Do you mean that the gpa and school would be enough to land first round interviews assuming other things are decent or do you mean that since the GPA is so low, dont even bother?

btw do they give consideration to the fact that engineering is probably harder than the typical polisci or psychology major?

Only on this forum would a 3.6 elicit the remark "since the GPA is so low, dont (sic) even bother"

why dont u take another major in Ross???? UMich B-school is top 5 no different from school u listed above. Plus transfer is costly(moving and application fee) and you might loss some credit hours. I don't understand why u wanna do this.

does it make a difference that it's Michigan Engineering compared to regular Michigan? I mean it's pretty obvious that it's a lot harder to get through the engineering program than to get through virtually any other majors with the same gpa (business included), and the fact that Michigan engineering is just as highly regarded in the engineering field as Ross is in the business field. Do recruiters care?

What a waste of a thread... Do I have a chance of making up my mind that I wanna do Ibanking in the worst market ever after I already knew I wanted to do engineering?

Seriously Bearcat,

With your type of mentality, I can assure you that if you were sent to the battle of normandy during world war 2 there is not a doubt in my mind that you would be the first one to die.
