(TCNJ) The College of New Jersey for Investment Banking FO Role

Currently a freshman at the college of New Jersey interested in pursuing an investment banking role at a top financial firm. I noticed a lot of upperclassmen have made it into buldge bracket global firms, does anyone have any insight on recruiting from campus or how to break in given the school background?

like any other non target there is a plethora of resources on here regarding this - just use the search function. The people you are seeing from your school are most likely back office/support roles with the caveat that I'm sure a few kids have made it. I have only interacted with one person in the entirety of front office IB or private equity that went to TCNJ - very few exist on the street. Will be an uphill battle, although nonetheless definitely still possible especially since you're a freshman and starting this early. Good luck!

To add to this, if they are in a front office role, they’re most likely a diversity hire. It’s tough as a non target but maybe you can look to transfer. If not get a high GPA, find internships, join clubs, and most importantly network with the alumni that you are finding at those roles.

What schools should I transfer to given that I am a freshman. I am looking to stay close to home in NJ and also have state tuition discounts

Rutgers NB and you’re still a nontarget there. Would look into leaving Jersey if you have a serious interest in IB since Princeton is the only target in the state and it’s both private (no instate tuition) and extremely hard to get into.

Would Rutgers be a solid option because my biggest fear is that the talent pool is so diluted with a state school. On the other hand they do have high transfer rates.

Because TCNJ has like 4-5 people in banking with a much smaller population while rutgers has double that but like 6x more students
