Those in top groups: do you look down upon laid off juniors?

Title says it all - recently laid off first-year from a top M&A group at GS/MS/JPM. Was recently in a lateral interview for another role (similar caliber bank) and hit it off with the interviewer immediately. He asked why I wanted to leave such a well-respected group and I had to include that I was being impacted by layoffs at the end of the month, entirely unrelated to performance. This completely changed the course of the conversation, and a few days later I found out I was cut after the first round. Is there a stigma toward laid-off juniors? Does anyone have advice on how to navigate this situation? Thank you sm in advance, know a ton of others dealing with the same thing.
