Thoughts on IB

Why are many people positioning the work of an investment banker as meaningless and not beneficial to society? What the fuck is this nonsense? Yes, it's hard, and yes it's long hours, but damn it, since you care so much about society, then go apply for some damn psychologists. I would like to hear people's opinions on this issue. It just boiled over already.

Everyone’s motives are different. Chasing the bag is not that bad if you have reasons to do so (don’t come from a rich background etc). End of the day, money is the bloodstream to everything around us. Sure, when incentives are not aligned for good, bad actors come about and greed can take a larger priority than good. But at the end of the day, your standard of living is a biproduct of what lending, credit, and other forms of financing can do for efficiency. Someone has to do it, and if it pays well and somewhat stimulating, then I say do it. It’s not interpersonal or something that will directly change the life of the individual, but a function that allows society to progress (until it doesn’t work, but over the course of time, we’re much better now in terms of living standards than we were 100 years ago).
