Too many quality games too little time

Hi guys,

Would not really consider myself a full-time gamer, but do enjoy playing the odd game of FIFA, cod, PUBG overwatch etc.

However, I'm sure anyone as who a owns a console since September is well aware of the quality releases out as of lately (spiderman, RDR2, assassin creed oddessy, tomb raider, God of war etc. A bit gutted I, 've not found the time to try these games out.

On that note, I'm just curious to know, those out there who also enjoy playing games with full-time roles, how do you manage to balance work and finding time to enjoy such?

Very difficult, if not impossible. As enjoyable as games are, they are an absolute huge drag on productivity.

Sure, some might be able to balance both but I mean look around.. how many people who are successful in multiple areas of life (work, family, relationships, other various hobbies) have time to play video games? Except for an hour or two on the weekends, I personally had to call it quits

Would be interested to hear from someone who does balance both.

I basically only play one game at a time now, two max. I'll have one game whatever my friends are playing for multiplayer at the moment (was Overwatch, then Fortnite, now Black Ops 4), and then maybe a single player game too (planning on Red Dead 2 as my next one). But this way I'm able to actually able to put significant time in a game and won't jump between like five games at at time and not be able to really enjoy any of them.

Will parrot what's been said already. Played video games recreationally when I was a kid and into college (lots of Madden while pregaming with buddies) but completely gave them up once I graduated and started working full-time. It became obvious that I just wouldn't have time to play video games and start a career/exercise/read/have a relationship/start a family/etc. Something had to give, and for me it was the easiest thing to let go. I tend to think "heavy" gaming (meaning >1 hour per day) is incompatible with a healthy and productive adult life, but that's just my opinion and definitely not a definitive rule.

As others have said, it's hard to find time without it compromising your productivity / social life. My gf works market hours so she goes to bed earlier than me which gives me an hour or two of alone time at night. That being said, I usually only play a game at a time and probably finish about 2 a year, no more. I've had to spend a lot of time with one of our portfolio Co recently that is located in a shit suburb in another city so there isn't much to do at night so I have had more time to game (I got an apartment as the only options are Garden Inn type places which I refuse to stay at) and it's been fun and managed to caught up on some title I hadn't been able to play (I'm doing MGSV now).

I still find time to play some Halo or CoD for a few hours per week. It's nice to grab a few games when I get home to unwind for a bit before bed (if I get home before 2am).

In HS was a huge console gamer (almost 100% Halo) and played a ton every week.

In college I played Super Smash bros w/my fraternity brothers every day for like an hour...one of the older bros always said "the second you get a girlfriend, I bet I never see you in here again"..senior year roles around, I get a girlfriend, and he was correct.

In the real world, I have only managed to play some on the PC (play LoL, little bit of Fortnite) and probably play ~2 hours a week to scratch that itch. Hopefully someday can devote more time to it again :(

Idk what all these bro’s are saying dude. On a good weeknight I have time to play an hour or two (working from 9-11ish), on the weekends I have bunch of time.

I'm not able to fit in "hardcore" video games (e.g. PlayStation, Xbox, etc. - basically the opposite of a "casual" video game that you can play on a mobile device in very short bursts) into my life unless I was, for lack of a better term, "killing two birds with one stone."

An example would be having a girlfriend/spouse who also enjoyed video games - you would be able to get your video game fix plus you would be also spending time together with the girlfriend/spouse. Sadly, those opportunities are few and far between for me.

The only time I have played a video game since starting my career has been at Dave and busters while drinking $2 long islands. I have a friend who was an analyst at a video game company and there playing was expected.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

I’m well into my officer years and I’ve been gaming throughout. For me, the reality is that by the end of the day/week, I’m exhausted mentally. I’ve been talking to clients endlessly and thinking about the infinite pile of shit on my plate, the last thing I want to do is interact with people. Gaming provides a good medium to relax my mind while doing something I enjoy. As for compatibility with adult life, I’m married with kids so it’s compatible. Everyone has their own way to recharge, gaming happens to be mine.

Oh did i mention gaming is a $150bn industry that’s highly bankable and goes well beyond the household names like Activision and Electronic Arts? Take a look at KKR and Silverlake and you’ll see that the world of finance is finally coming to realize how lucrative and mainstream the gaming world is.
