The temporary ban is much better than expected: - opt not affected - only consular processing, with exceptions - no EB5 blockage - no other non-immigrant visas affected - surprisingly J1 included, but I doubt there are huge amounts of people abroad who would want to be in the US atm. Most colleges are closed anyhow and they are hanging out elsewhere. Covid19 is ongoing everywhere and traveling abroad right now is not a high priority, IMO. - you can change status within the US, only foreign based processes seem to be delayed - people with family in the US can travel back - essential workers in health care, food supply chain, etc are also exempt, so no problem there

Big losers are the h1b winners for 2020 and those who wanted to transfer on L1, the people who are abroad and were expected to start in FY21 or earlier.

but in all honesty, all these people abroad have had no interviews, no way of getting them, and no adjudication process or visas stamped. They are exactly where they were before.

If they are on TN, nothing will happen to them. At least from this EO. edit: to clarify: If Canadians require a J1, then yes, they are affected as the J visa is suspended until the end of the year.

My bank specified that they're trying to get Canadians on H1B first before TN. I just won an H1B this year like 2 months ago and no idea what's gonna happen now. Hopefully my firm will try to move me to TN but who knows but as of right now I'm still on my OPT

well, in that case, unfortunately, you are in the group that can't go ahead with the visa. h1b is suppressed, so is J1. TN would be one of the choices for this year.
