Types of questions asked during reference calls
Fellow monkeys,
I have recently become an Associate at my MM bank after not going the PE path (happy to speak to that as well) and recently some of the Analysts I’ve worked with have asked me to be their references.
I was in their shoes once when asking my seniors for references, but I’ve never been someone else’s and not sure what to expect / have to respond to.
How in depth will they be?
There are some juniors I have only lightly worked with / haven’t executed a deal, although they’re generally likable and seem like they work hard.
Should I recuse myself as a reference in those cases, or is it more high level?
Does it vary by industry (I.e. reference calls for a PE gig vs a tech giant).
Regards as always,
