UConn Freshman trying to break into IB

I am an incoming freshman at UConn and wanted some opinions on what I should start doing freshman year to best prepare myself for IB and increase my chances of getting an offer. Also what would be a good time to start prepping technicals and start networking. Thank you in advance!

I graduated from UConn in the past couple of years and have definitely seen a lot better placement. Within last 5 years especially, placement has definitely grown even if it’s to smaller banks. Citi comes to campus and will generally push a couple kids to super days. Start networking and continue to keep those relationships. People have been leaving there first role which widens the network to more places in the street. Work hard, network hard, and enjoy being at the best basketball school in the country

Gpa is the most important thing try to get active in finance society and investment banking club .I think 3.85 and above and you honestly have a decent chance don’t be like me one bad semester now I’m struggling even with decent experience.

I graduated from UConn a couple of years ago and found a role at a middle market group during my senior year. There are a decent amount of alum at different firms, and people are usually willing to help out as long as you are prepared and knowledgeable about the field you’re looking to get into.

Get an internship freshman summer and join clubs.

Don't start networking for junior summer until the start of sophomore year. Networking multiple years out as a freshman is 1) a waste of time since IB turnover is so high, no guarantee they'll even be around for recruiting and 2) looks kind of hardo; early soph year is plenty of time.
