This thread has been done 10000000 times. For the UK:
Tier 1: Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL and Warwick (IBD memes won't be happy) + LBS (Masters)
Tier 1.5: Durham. Bath (mainly for industrial placements), Nottingham
Tier 2: Bristol, Exeter, Edinburgh, St Andrews
Tier 3: York, Leeds, KCL, QMUL, Bayes/City, Loughborough
Tier 4: Lancaster, Cardiff, Newcastle
Not well versed in European Schools but imagine HEC, Bocconi, LBS, ESCP and ESSEC lead the rankings for most undergrad and postgrad/masters stuff. A slight tier below them would probably be schools like Trinity, UCD, St Gallen, Edhec, IE, ESADE, INSEAD and WHU. Stockholm School of Economics and Mannheim are also solid at the least.
Why do people always put St Andrews so high? It's a good school for academics but it isn't as targeted as people think it is for FO ...
QMUL is a non-target. Leeds too recently, I don't think it used to be like this, but I just never see Leeds kids in banking anymore... Loughborough shouldn't be so high up either.
York and KCL are about the same level, yes. Exeter should not be in Tier 2, it does not outperform Tier 3, they place about the same (or less) people than York and KCL.
Otherwise comprehensive list. Maybe remove LBS, not relevant for an undergraduate tier list.
Tbh, you're spot on w St Andrews. I myself think they're overhyped, but still would say on academic reputation and given how hard it is to get into StA compared to the other tier 3/4 unis, it merits a place in tier 2. If you saw the Times and Guardian UK uni rankings, you'd think StA is better than Oxbridge with the amount of hype they give it (probably cos the Royals went there). I do agree StA doesn't have as many FO roles as people think, but I dont think there's a big IB/Finance culture at StA in comparison to the other unis.
That's bad logic, then you could put Lancaster (consistently top 20, if not 10) into Tier 2, when it is absolutely a non-target.
This isn't about how good universities are, it's just recruitment. I mean Nottingham really isn't all that great apart from Economics, yet it's still fairly targeted ...
It's targeted just as much as the other semi-targets but they have such a small student body + very little finance career scene so far less people apply and therefore they have less placement. Basically the opposite of somewhere like notts
Would def swap Bristol and Bath op said Spring and summer not professional placement. Bristol has no business being so low and on the same tier as Exeter.
