Unique situation, trying to break into IB
Hey guys,
I’m a third year science major from a semi-target school in Canada, have 3.7 GPA. I have not been able to get any internships this summer as I started looking too late. I really want to break into IB but I know from my position it will be a tough road. I’ve heard a lot of different opinions and I’m confused as if I
1) should get work experience and go MBA route Or 2) take an extra year so I could try and get a summer internship between my 4th and 5th year or 3) do a masters in finance and try get an internship then 4) or network like crazy and get a finance internship this summer and apply to every small boutique available upon graduation.I’ve been studying finance in my off time but I no experience in work so I’m not sure if I’ll even be able to get regular finance internships with my general science background.
Any advice would be very helpful!
Go with 2, but you need to start networking RIGHT NOW because recruiting will start in the next few months. 3 and 4 can be your backups, 1 is silly unless you are already graduated
Appreciate it man, I have already been contacting as many individuals at banks near me as possible. Hopefully, I’ll be able to land one.
I agree^ I took a 5th year to secure SA and convert FT offer. As a result, had an extra summer of internship experiences, so the work itself wasn’t as difficult. Also, I don’t regret having a full school year to just chill with my friends and figure out my own hobbies. Good luck dude!
