Using Non Ethnic Name in Banking

Incoming intern. I was born in Sudan and moved to America when I was 5. My last name, while special to my heritage and family, is long and difficult to pronounce. Frankly, no one can pronounce it correctly. Instead, I wanted to use my middle name which is much easier to pronounce/use.

Is there any rules (FINRA?) against using my first and middle name in email/company dealings? Thank you!

This is fairly common among ethnic minorities or people who don't like their name for other reasons.

i.e. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon could become Apu Nate (and they could give you [email protected])

For official purposes (background check, FINRA, educational credentials, etc) they would need your full legal name as in your passport. Your full legal name may also show up in certain software applications like SAP, travel software, peer review solutions, or budget approval software.

You'd have to be registered as your full name, but you can probably go by a "preferred" name if you wish in the workplace.
