Verbal Offer -> Written Offer Timeline

Hello Monkeys,

Looking for someone to either confirm that I’m getting the runaround or tell me to chill out.

Had a superday just before the holidays. Interviewer reached out a week and a half later saying they want to bring me on board but need time for HR to sort everything out. They also said they “couldn’t promise anything, but they want to get an offer out”. This struck me as odd.

It’s been another week and a half since this conversation. Followed up 2 days ago, haven’t heard anything.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks all.

Usually papering an offer was a formality. In my experience, mind you as a lateral, it’s been anywhere from 2-3 days to a week and a half. During the longest one they did give me updates, pretty granular ones and told me when to expect the offer. I will say all these were overall large firms, smaller ones are more of a crapshoot and have fewer formal processes.

Realistically thinking this as well. Feels like a glorified version of being on hold.

for me, probably like 3 months but thats because I interviewed before covid hit, got the verbal, then was no longer able to go to office. whole world was transitioning into virtual/WFH and they didnt know what to do with interns. After the CEO announced no cutting of any internships, then they finally replied. I would probably start looking for another job if I havent heard back after a month. who knows if your hiring manager was part of the mega cull today.

Very true. As far as I know, this firm hasn’t announced layoffs (smaller regional office for a MM firm). But just because I haven’t heard about it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen

Keep interviewing , them saying “can’t promise anything” sounds more like a soft yes/ indication of interest than a straight up offer
