Warburg vs Gs Analyst
Would it be more helpful to recruit to bean analyst at a non BX/KKR MF such as Warburg or comparable or just ib with the goals of moving into a HF? I’m a senior, and going to recruit for HFs, but it is unlikely I’ll be successful (as with PE) and I’m not sure if I should also try to recruit for pe, or if a bb IB offer would be better to get into a HF? I’ve heard from some that ib is actually the better training ground to get into a Hf, while others say that MF/UMM PE is the best non HF option? What do you guys think?
A few things:
1) Warburg only hires FT analysts and most if not all of their hires come from investment banking summer analyst programs. If I remember correctly, most recents FT analysts have come PJT/EVR/GS/MS
2) If you were presented with the option of Warburg vs BB/EB IB most would recommend that you take the Warburg offer if your only goal was to get to a HF seat quickly. Many people do 2 years in IB followed by 2 years in PE prior to joining a HF so that would allow you to potentially “save” 2 years
3) More important than the other two points, think critically about why you want to do what you want to do. Internships, clubs, and networking are ways you can answer this. Even with in HF, there are many different strategies that require differing skill sets so have another reason for wanting to be in a HF other than prestige/money. Also, I’m assuming you’re a senior in HS so you have many steps left before you’re presented with this choice (ex: going to the best school possible, doing well in school, landing an IB/PE SA job, etc).
Note: I’m only a senior in college (will be an ib analyst after graduation) so perhaps others with more experience can chime in
Also, if you’re a senior in college, Warburg is done hiring this year.

I’m a senior in college and have done a summer ib analyst program, but no pe internships. I’ve always been interested in investing, which is why I’m considering recruiting pe in addition to Hf. I ultimately want to end up on the public side though. Also, I’m not just considering Consoderign Warburg, just something comparable (Umm/non BX/KKR MF).
What if the offer is for umm pe instead of a mf
Don’t know any umm PE that has analyst program. also, did u intern in an BB/EB junior summer? If so, idk why you are asking these very surface level questions. If not, no chance of getting into listed MF analyst programs (all of them have closed anyways)
This is what I thought, but looking at doing some linkden stalking, it seems like ib is may more common if a path to HFS. I know obviously there’s way less pe analysts, but I’ve seen very few pe analysts at HFs compared to IB analysts (not considering associates). Is there any truth to this trend?
Well, think about how many PE analysts there are generally relative to IB analysts. As a proxy, BX takes 3-5 total, while you have ~100 analysts at GS alone.
