Wells Fargo Charlotte

I wanted to ask for some genuine thoughts on Wells Fargo’s Charlotte IB office. I have seen a lot of people on WSO criticize it or say negative things, but I am hoping to get a more balanced and honest view from anyone who knows the real situation.

Specifically:

  • If you are in a decent/good group, are you in a strong enough spot for exits?
  • Or is being in Charlotte by itself a big disadvantage no matter what group you are in?
  • What are the actual exit opportunities like from Charlotte — is it realistically possible to recruit for PE, or would you need to lateral first? I am unsure if there is enough deal experience there, and if so, what groups I should go to if I want to get a deal under my belt.

I get that New York is always preferred for IB, but I’m really just trying to understand if starting in Charlotte still sets you up for good outcomes if you work hard and get good experience, or if it puts you way behind no matter what.

Would really appreciate any honest thoughts or advice from people who have seen it firsthand.

As someone also going to Charlotte – Wells Fargo is a very well respected MM and the majority of their IB operations come from Charlotte. In terms of PE exits, I think being in NYC is obviously a huge advantage, and there is always time to pivot to NYC as an Analyst.
