what does "experienced" analyst mean?

Hey guys, I'm a senior who will be graduating in May. I have a return to a mm/lmm bank, but I've been seeing a lot of analyst positions open up lately and I'm wondering if I could apply to them. I've had a few interviews but didn't get the job (they were mm and were also looking for experienced analyst) I noticed some analyst positions and they are looking for "experienced" analysts.

I know they are lateral positions, but I'm interested in knowing if there's any way I can apply to them. Also, any general advice on how to approach the lateral process would be appreciated. Maybe I'm too early? or whats the process and way to do this?

Technically means they're looking to hire an An2 but they dub them "experienced" to allow for some leniency in the hiring process. (E.g. a SA at a different bank who has connections). Although you could definitely apply, they are really looking for An2 so you might be auto-rejected once they see your expected graduation date.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm from a non-target school cold emailed to my SA role since than, I've networked and connected with several VPs+ at Moelis since then. Does this count as the kind of connections they're looking for? or more like a family friend
