What Internships Did You Have & What Was Your First Role After Undergrad

As specific as you can be about internships you had during undergrad or b-school, and which role did you get coming out of school. Including your school's general tier (hate to say it) would help paint a clearer picture.

Would be helpful to get data points on how internships lead to FT positions.

School is a Semi-Target on the west coast

After freshman year: Operations at a surgery center After sophomore year: Acquisitions at a boutique RE investment firm After junior year: Investment management intern for a $10-20B AUM Hedge Fund

Currently: MM IBD as a generalist

After freshman/sophomore year: boutique PWM After jr.: Corp fin During sr: operations at an AM

first FT job: analyst at a company thst published periodic research on various areas of financial services

Here comes the rollercoaster. School: semi/non-target Freshman summer: none Sophomore summer: small business lending Junior fall: part-time at a small WM shop Junior summer: big institutional AM Senior year: data analytics for a local firm FT offer from an business val/advisory firm, pulled a month before graduation because of a downturn Stayed at the local firm FT. Starting at said bus val/advisory shop in a month as they stabilized now

After Sophomore Year- I worked at a small (8 employee) commercial real estate firm in Chicago, I helped identify new properties for acquisitions and worked was tasked with developing strategies to squeeze more revenue out of existing properties.

After Junior Year- I got a summer internship at a middle market PE Firm (25+ professionals). I networked my ass off through my alumni network just to get my foot in the door. I learned a ton and was given a great deal of meaningful work. Unfortunately, this firm was not looking to hire anyone pre-MBA so there was no chance to start here once I graduated.

FT: I interview at a major bank and received an offer from their Real Estate Equity Investment Group (250+ employees). Three years later I'm an associate and I'm working up through the ranks. I'll continue to examine other options in the REPE space and my eventual goal is move there when I find the right opportunity.
