What is a pre-1st round phone screen interview?

Anyone know what this is? This is for fulltime but its not an official interview, the guy says its just a phone screen.

What kind of questions can i expect from this? all fit? why xxx bank? or will it be technical?

most likely someone from HR will call you. since they said it wont be a phone interview, i wouldnt expect any technical or fit questions. most likely they will ask you about your past work experience, so have your resume in front of you. they basically want to hear you over the phone to make sure you can communicate like a normal human being.

treat it like a professional conversation and ask good questions.

I have had first round phone screens that are just fit and having a conversation. Then again, I have had first round screens that were 4 on 1 conference calls with technical questions and brain teasers (that was a ******* nightmare). Be ready for anything and then you wont be surprised. They will definitely want you to walk them through your resume, ask why you are applying for that position, and possibly why that firm in particular.

interview gang-bang. thats bullshit, i hate when employers do that.

but did they say they would be interviewing you or did they say they were going to screen you?

Who the hell has time to put 4 people on 1 screening? That's just nuts.

To the OP?

His advice on the three guaranteed questions is spot on. Either way treat it as an interview They may call it a "screen", but more often than not that just means a R1 interview for non-targets.

The four most important things to know for this phone screen are as follows:

1) Why are you interested in Investment Banking? 2) Why are you interested in this bank? 3) Be prepared to quickly walk them through your resume. 4) Prepare a list of intelligent questions for the interviewer.

I have never heard of technical questions being applied during a phone screen. Usually it is an opportunity for the firm to figure out if the candidate has their head screwed on correctly, and it is also an opportunity for you to ask a ton of excellent, pre-prepared questions.

So the former partner-in-charge of a group sent my resume with a recommendation to the current heads of a group at a bank, and a VP in the group reached out to "discuss my interest" in the group. Was this really a first-round interview in disguise? And what are my odds of getting a callback?
