What are the GS M&A Structuring, SDSA, M&A Capital Markets Groups??

Recently received an email from Goldman's recruiting team asking if I was interested in the 2026 summer analyst position for the M&A Center Activism & Shareholder Advisory, M&A Structuring, and M&A Capital Markets Teams. The email specifically said it wasn't an interview invitation, but I hope it's a good sign. I already had a superday for Financing and received a waitlist call.

I tried to Google what these teams are and LinkedIn stalked, but turned up quite short. Are the teams just really small or something? I could only find the Partner, MD, and like 3 analysts across M&A Structuring and M&A Capital Markets.

Any insights on what these groups do, comp, exit ops? It technically falls under IBD, but how does it compare to Classic and Financing groups at Goldman, and IB at other BBs?

tbh trying to figure out what this even is before officially saying yes. there's like no info online about it :/

also, do you think this means we're cut from the superday, and they r moving us to another round of consideration in another section cuz we didn't suck that much?

true- the time deadline of tomorrow is just getting me tho. i think i'm just gonna reply and say I'm interested, but I'm going to ask in the email if i'm still being considered for the other product groups, lmk if you get a response/what you end up doing

will do! currently in the trenches for recruiting. i keep striking out :/

Know a few ppl from my school that are interning in these groups next summer. From what I know, it's not really IB, and the exit opps are not great. People in those groups are 99% of the time trying to move internally to a classic or financing group. If you have any IB offers from other reputable shops, I would take them over those GS groups unless you have a ton of school alumni/connections that could potentially help you internally transfer down the road.

can i work at gs and build those connections while at the firm to transfer internally? or should i just take an ib job at like citi? i don't really care too much about going into pe, i more so want the deal experience

Not really IB - functionally a MO/BO role. Friends there in coverage have said the product/financing groups are somewhat of a joke

do u know how difficult it is to internally transfer from m&a into a classic group?

This is a page from on-campus presentation a few years back if helpful:
