What is the timeline for '25 and '26 summer internships? I'm hearing about diff time lines from everyone.

I'm a rising sophomore trying to figure out the timeline for summer 25 and 26 internships. I was told by some people that internship results overlap for sophomore and junior year and most of them open around November and December this year, but saw that some sophomore internships have already opened and shops like JP Morgan close them in late June. Wanted to see if anyone had a concrete understanding of the timeline, so I don't feel like I'm lightyears behind where I should be. Thanks

I was in your position last year. Apply like hell this whole summer/fall ASAP to as many 2025 internships as you can. Depending on your school reach out to alumni or cold message people on LinkedIn for coffee chats. In December/Jan you should hopefully have your 2025 offer and can start leveraging some of those relationships you made from recruiting into referrals/interview help for your 2026 cycle applications (applications will open up Jan, Feb, March of 2025)

Soph internships at BBs are incredibly unlikely so don't get too focused on those... apply of course but I would focus your energy on smaller shops, can start networking around the early fall as those places are not signing interns a year out

For 2026, you should network heavily in Sept, Oct, Nov and then reconnect with people in Jan/Feb about recruiting timelines. That will kick off in late winter/early spring with most banks filling up their classes by April or May

Would you recommend I avoid attempting to get referrals when applying for the soph BB internships and to save those relationships and connections I've built for when junior internships open up? I was just conflicted with whether I should cold apply to soph internships at these larger firms as they are much harder to secure, or if it doesn't matter if I use referrals from the same few people for both rounds. Thanks!
