What Kind Of Bonuses?

From what I have read and heard from many who work on Wall Street, a lot of times the base salary is nothing compared to the bonus you can receive. While this has been recited to me on several occasions through my research, I haven't really gotten any quantitative answers as to what we're talking about.

Say if someone in I-Banking has a base salary of $60K, what type of bonus would they make in a good year? A bad year? An average year?

Hey don't patronize the kid like that, I'm sure that since he's a senior chimp and has done "research" he must surely have come across the link to the compensation database at the homepage of ibankingoasis.com, containing a giant bar graph for banking pay.

Thanks. That helped tremendously.

PS. Is that a graph based on the I-bankers from this forum, or an overall graph from the whole industry?

structure:
To be fair, the ibankingoasis search is really terrible.
Bump. The forum is great overall, but the search engine is horrible in my opinion.

To the person who posted the link to the search results, they didn't help.

to be fair, yes it is bad.... however there are so many lazy fucks on here wanting hand outs for information, it is ridiculous. I always feel lucky I am figuring out my major, where i want to work, etc. with the internet. I dont know how people did it before. If that means I have to work some magic with the search engine so I don't ask too many annoying q's, I will because I want to keep all the people offering info on this board.

I just think all the people here asking the same questions with out searching suck because they just annoy people, and with the lack of common sense no information gathered will help them get into ibanking/trading anyway....

rant: over

I recommend a forum heading called "Obvious questions" or "STandard questions"

Those relating to 1) Obvious path into the industry 2) Target School argument 3) GPA argument 4) Lying about GPA argument (lol) 5) Internship choice argument

All of these issues have a number of great threads, very entertaining as well as informative.

Unlike some people here, I don't mind the occasional joke or sarcastic remark, it keeps this place fun.

Rant: only beginning

That's actually not a bad idea. Haha.

It's a place for intuitive minds to go without having to put on a flamesuit.

PS. Just so you all know, I did search through pages and pages of threads before asking this, but just didn't see that "Compensation Link" right on the first page. :(

Please don't call yourself intuitive. The search function on this website is bad, but not useless. Typing the word "Bonus" comes up with a whole ton of posts ... here's a few I found useful in about 2 minutes of searching.

Yea, I guess it takes a lot to click on links to figure out if they contain exactly what you are looking for ... gosh so much work. I'd love to see you negotiate your way through a 10-k or Bloomberg. Laziness.

I'm not going to get in a pissing match with you, but I can guarantee I did search around before asking the question. Whether or not you wish to belive me, is up to you.

As for your analogy, I'd love to see or hear how someone's searching skills on a forum relates to real life negotiation.

To those who helped, I appreciate it.

I'm not trying to get in a pissing match with you (you'd probably need someone to hold your dick for that too). I'm simply calling you out on laziness.

When I said "negotiate" I meant move through a 10-k or bloomberg, which both demand some resourcefulness. Believe it or not you'll be doing a lot of searching as a SA (yes, real world searching!) and it's not as easy as typing in a couple words and immediately finding the data/info you want. Your analyst and associate won't hold your hand through the process.

As for those that you think "helped" you (including me)... they just fed you the answer to the test. You didn't learn the process and don't seem to mind. You'll never get that offer if this is the attitude you take with you into the summer. Again ... laziness.

Wow. Once again you're comparing the way I may be lazy on a message board to the way I function in real life. Was I being a bit lazy? Could I have worked harder to find the answer? Yes, of course, kill me. This is a damn message board for crying out loud, not a test. You all aren't my superiors. So why not try to be handfed the information first-hand? Once again your analogy is ridiculous and pathetic at best.

Posting on a message board is certainly not comparable to real life behavior, where I would have approached the situation in a whole different manner, and yes, been more resourceful.

I really hope your logic is better than this for your sake.

Dude, you're still playing with IB action figures!

did you know that? lol. your patheticocity (spelling, lol) is most exemplary!

hi fibows, in general, when you come to a board looking for info, and are able to provide nothing in return, give the content providers some leeway if you ever want to be helped again.

and don't take it so personally. it's the internet.

Thanks for the advice, Jimbo.

And once again, to those who sent me in the right direction, thanks.
