What time are you expected to hit the desk?
Would like to know how strict the “clock in” time is and what that time really is for everyone.
Also, if you worked past midnight are expectations flexible for coming into office later in the day or do you still have to be at your desk at 8:30am, for example? And do you have to always communicate to your staffer.
Be specific if you can, trying to gauge the difference, if at all, across banks/firms.
You're not a child, if you have meetings running in the morning, banks are going to trust you to join from home. Otherwise, I (at MM Bank) get into the office around 9ish, but no one is going to police you if you have a good team.
I get in at 11/12 everyday
I used to get in at 9:30. After an all nighter i went home at 9:30, slept 20 mins and was back in the office for 10:30 for a DD call. Normally wouldn't be allowed to take calls from home cos of a cunt of an MD.
I used to get in at 10/10:30 as a 2nd year analyst every day. In my first year, it was around 9:30, and yes take early calls from home if it's comfortable. But that's mostly because my group was very nocturnal (read: sweaty)
At GS/MS. Usually leave around 2am and come in around 9:30. Try to be in at 9 on Mondays unless Sunday got very late. People usually dropping in later on Fridays (10-10:30). Nothing annoys me more than people who schedule meetings at 8-9am. We also have this "Analyst Guide" which specifically says that working late is no excuse to come in late, you should always be in at 9:00 latest...
