What time do you stay up looking out for emails? (Analysts)

Just starting on the job, and just wondering what the general protocol for logging off as an analyst is.Should I be waiting for associates to sign off? Or if I have no pressing deals is it reasonable to log off at a certain time?

Not trying to take a shot at you by any means as it seems you are not the only one with this mentality but it's really sad that Analysts have this much anxiety when it comes to IB. When you're done working sign off and chill, if there is anything pressing you can be reached on your phone. 9 times out of ten unless you are in the process of closing a deal or making edits to a pitch that is the following day, whatever it is can wait until morning. I know some Associates and VPs can be d-bags and want their Analysts at their beck and call 24/7 but I wouldn't say that is common place. I personally send late night emails to my Analysts all the time but I also generally tell them not to worry about it until morning unless it is urgent, then I call them to make sure they saw the email. Just talk to your Associates/VPs to figure out expectations, communication is key.

General rule

1) If you are working through a live deal along with a more senior person you unfortunately have to stay up with them, so if they are continuously sending emails from 8pm to 3am. You'll have to stay up to address them.

2) If it's for something unrelated, then I would ignore all emails past 12am and address them in the morning.

I keep an eye out on my phone till around 11:30pm - midnight. After that, you going to have to call me a few times. You have to be able to set a line and boundary. Make people respect that. I’ve told my entire team, even my MD. After midnight I probably won’t answer you so call if needed. I’ve never had anyone ever have a problem with it and frankly I wouldn’t care. Dont let this job consume you the way it does many others. I see many analyst and associates up sending emails at 3-4am. I would never unless it’s a pressing urgent matter that I’ve been working on before midnight

Related question, but when is it ok to go to bed?

I’m wfh still so I’ll just bring my phone and keep an eye on it to go watch tv or whatever, but when is it acceptable to actually sleep? Worried I’ll miss an email that I need to deal with.

My team is typically sending stuff around until around 2am. Nothing I’ve had to do yet, but is the expectation I’ll be readily available for a task if my team is still working?

Same. I usually keep it green until 7 and then say fuck it and log off and open my teams every 15-20 minutes for a second so it turns green. My phone is an arms length away and it makes an annoying noise every time I get pinged or get an email so I’m not missing anything. Idgaf if it sets a bad precedent, I do nothing after 2 pm and I’m not about to twiddle my thumbs for 8 hours for “FaceTime”
