Where are the top kids from targets going?

For context, i go to a semi target that places decently into BB/EB, handful (literally can count on three fingers, given the year) going to top buy side (BX/KKR). I assume if your going to a top target getting a banking job at BofA is not that difficult. Where are the top kids from top targets going?

sorry i dont know what an ego stroke is. When you mean top buyside programs, top HF programs, and top EB groups, what exactly do you mean? Like which groups and which buyside shops?

This. It also does come down a bit to luck. If you're unlucky in your penultimate year or there's a tough market then even really good candidates can end up at places you wouldn't expect. I went to a top target in Europe and some of the smartest kids from my class ended up at places like HSBC while I ended up at GS despite not even knowing how to align objects in PPT. The one thing that is quite odd in Europe is that they love people with "interesting" backgrounds. There's nothing they love more than a kid who read history at Oxford, couldn't tell you what EBITDA is if their life depended on it, but has an interesting story on why they wanna do IB

People also do a LOT of internships here in Europe before ending up at good places. It's not uncommon to see people who have done 5+ internships in IB / PE during their bachelor's + master's and then continue to do 2-3 off-cycles after graduating from their master's before actually starting somewhere. Very uncommon to see the Bachelor's --> penultimate year SA at top IB / PE fund --> FT in Europe.

The London and europe hiring market is a lot more competitive than the US. On the US it seems like just going to a top target will get your foot in the door. For London a top target is just baseline

Can confirm about interesting backgrounds. I do a degree which is super rare in IBD and had a decent story on my CL and passed 40-50% of CV screenings of my applications

I think its more like i'm typing this from my phone when im taking a shit and dont give a flying fuck lol

If you go to a target it doesn’t mean getting a job in IB is easy. I’ve seen many kids at H/Y/P fail to break in even to MMs

They don’t go to CVP (2024 class is just a bunch of fucking diversity hires and non targets)
