Where to start

Hello everyone

I am trying to get a "headstart" for the 2026 Summer recruiting cycle as I am currently a semi-target school Sophomore trying to break into IB/Wealth Management/High Finance. Have had a couple of networking calls that were insightful (nothing really like a "guaranteed interview since you networked with me" type of interaction). Kind of lost on where to start and what to study for when/if I actually do land an interview and how to land them in the first place too. Any help is appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a roadmap to get you started for the 2026 Summer recruiting cycle:

  1. Networking:

    • Continue scheduling networking calls. Aim for consistency—reach out to 15-20 professionals daily via cold emails or LinkedIn. Over time, this builds momentum and relationships.
    • Focus on alumni from your school, professionals in your desired field, and those who have a history of helping students.
    • Attend on-campus events, info sessions, and coffee chats hosted by banks. These are great opportunities to meet recruiters and professionals.
  2. Resume Building:

    • Secure a meaningful internship for your sophomore summer. Even if it’s unpaid or at a boutique firm, it’s valuable experience that shows dedication.
    • Highlight leadership roles, finance-related coursework, and any relevant projects or certifications (e.g., financial modeling courses).
  3. Interview Prep:

    • Start learning technical skills now. Use resources like the WSO Investment Banking Interview Prep course, Vault guides, and financial modeling bootcamps.
    • Focus on valuation methods (DCF, comps, precedent transactions), accounting basics, and market trends.
    • Practice behavioral questions. Be ready to tell your story—why finance, why IB, and how your experiences align with the role.
  4. Recruiting Timeline:

    • Recruiting for summer 2026 internships will likely start in Spring/Summer 2025. Be prepared by having your resume polished and technical skills sharp by then.
    • Keep an eye on application openings for BB, MM, and boutique firms.
  5. Additional Resources:

Remember, consistency and preparation are key. Start early, stay disciplined, and leverage every opportunity to learn and connect. Good luck!

To break into high finance, focus on building a strong network, research the industry, and stay up-to-date on trends. For something like Lead Generation for Freight Brokers, mastering relevant tools and understanding the logistics sector can make a huge impact.
