Came across JPM’s DEI disclosure from 2023 and few takeaways:
- Decade of favouritism towards women in hirings and promotions has ensured almost parity across the board yet the whinning continues. Based on gender stats there is no need for further gender favoritism yet gender quotas continue
- Despite being ~60% of US population, white people retain ~80%+ seats across all levels
- There is no legitimate basis for white women to benefit from gender quotas. Right now they are prime beneficiaries. They should stop identifying as a minority as they are double dipping and robbing ethnic women if anything
- Frequent tantrums by white men about DEI are baseless as they remain significantly over-represented
- Asian / Brown / Arab men are severely handicapped by current policies. Either they need to be included in DEI or white women need to be excluded.

Its interesting to see the way WSO has evolved because your take is what people on this forum previously said years ago when this topic came up and now its "white women shouldn't benefit from DEI." Its easy to say you prefer to be around women once you break into banking and think you're no longer affected by DEI.
The take is now much rarer because the same men who once had that take are now the people first to be laid off or not given a promotion because they were passed over for a woman, because the bank needed to hit a promotion quota or retain their gender balance.
There will come a time when you will come to regret that view.

Finally some stats to back up what I have been saying all along. DEI is just front to favor white people.
On one hand, rich old white men push gender targets knowing that it will only enforce overwhelming white majority with white women being prime DEI Beckies. DEI makes these white men in power look inclusive and gives them an excuse to push out Asian / Arab / Brown men whom they feel threatened by.
The racial DEI stats are so out of touch with ground realities yet all the hate is reserved for racial quotas and a blind eye is turned towards gender targets for whom business case is abysmal.
PoC need to understand that societies in developed world are fractured along racial lines and not gender lines.

Nobody questions Asians in quant roles, as they are typically attracted to those roles and good at them. Perhaps, and this may be a shock, it's because white people are more likely to choose IB as a career and be good at it? If 1000 people apply, and 70% of them are white, you can't 'force' DEI. Also, if the majority of qualified target school applicants are white, it would be unfair to hire less qualified men that don't hit the requirements? If you go to any target school, you are very likely to find a strong mix of women in the classes. They aren't being hired from drama school...

Some merits in the main point of your analysis but the secondary reasoning, to perfectly match demographics in each company/industry, doesn’t make sense at all.
What is missing in JPM’s report is the number of applicants per group — I don’t envy the new classes of juniors — they go through a filter which is ~5-10x tougher than for other applicants… THAT’S where the discrimination happens nowadays.. effectively punishing a generation of young lads for the fuckups of another gen. Honestly, if the gals are good at what they do, let them run the bank — what do I care.
