Will you guys not talk to me if I have a 3.5 GPA?

I’m a student at a Canadian target school, and from what I had seen on WSO, I always thought that as long as your GPA was above 3.5, it would not have a huge impact on recruiting.

But recently, after talking with some friends, I started hearing that if you have around a 3.5, your emails are a lot less likely to get responses.

I have also heard that Toronto IB tends to have a relatively high GPA bar, so I’m wondering how much it actually matters in practice. Does a 3.5 materially hurt you for networking and first-round interview selection?

And once you get past the first round, does GPA matter much anymore, or does it mostly stop mattering at that point?

Would really appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance for the help.

What year are you in?

GPA matters a lot less after the screening but you may get some questions on it, also preferably you'd want a 3.7/4.0 for Toronto IB. Yours currently can hurt with networking unfortunately.

I’m a first-year, so if my response rate is low, I guess that just means I need to send more emails. And once I get a first-round interview, GPA has very little impact from that point on, right?

Again, I wouldn't say very little because it can be used as tiebreakers, a ding later on, or questioning as to why your gpa is only a 3.5

I graduated from QC/Ivey and if I was interviewing, I would be curious why your GPA is low because they aren't very hard programs.
