Have you got offers from both yet? You may not - and therefore have the choice made for you - since your personal statement is likely to be completely irrelevant for one of the courses, no?

You shouldn't have to worry with either of those courses.

I attend a decent non-target (top 15), but Durham and especially UCL are clear of it.I received an offer for Commercial Banking SA this year.I didn't take it though, I'm doing a placement instead and I'm applying this summer to Corporate.

Attending a target isn't really as important for CB as IB. The final candidates in my AC for Commercial were from KCL, Bocconi, UCL and Manchester and all studied either Econ or Finance. They're really good schools but nothing Durham doesn't compete with.

My advice is pick the one you’ll enjoy more. Accounting studies are bit dry but each to their own. Finance will give you a head start with technicals and can give you a lot of stuff to talk about in interviews. That said if you’re studying at UCL and get some good spring weeks or relevant pre Uni work experience, you’d probably fair better in Corporate Banking recruiting.
