Advice for Prospective Investment Bankers

Hi all! I am currently a senior in high school and want to go into IB/a career in finance. I would love to hear any advice for what I should do over the next few years to set myself up for success in the field (internships, activities, social media connections, etc.)?!

Hey there, future finance whiz! It's great to see you're planning ahead. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips to set you up for success in Investment Banking:

  1. Education: Focus on getting into a reputable university with a strong finance or business program. This will give you a solid foundation in the field.

  2. Internships: Try to secure internships as early as possible. Even if they're not directly related to IB, any experience in a corporate setting can be beneficial.

  3. Networking: Start building your network early. Attend finance-related events at your university, connect with alumni in the field, and don't be shy about reaching out to professionals on LinkedIn for informational interviews.

  4. Skills: Brush up on your financial modeling and Excel skills. WSO Academy offers some great courses on these topics.

  5. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the financial markets and global economy. This will not only help you in interviews but also give you a better understanding of the industry.

  6. WSO Resources: Make use of resources like the Networking Guide, Investment Banking Prep, and Behavioral Techniques available on WSO.

Remember, the journey to becoming an Investment Banker is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay focused, be persistent, and don't forget to enjoy the ride!
