Am I allowed a copy of my own letter of rec?
I interned this past summer at a BB in a Capital Markets role (FX). Won't bore you with details or excuses - I did not receive a full-time offer at the end of summer. However, my staffer (a VP), told me that my strengths would serve me well in a DCM, Equity Research, or IB role and that she would be happy to write me a letter of recommendation.
After the internship was over, I wrote her an email thanking her for the summer and asked her about letter of rec. She said she would hop right on it and that I should just email her with the details of who to send it to.
At my previous internship, my boss wrote me a letter of rec and sent me the PDF, which I attached to relevant applications. This was very convenient as I didn't have to keep bothering him with names and emails of employers to send it to. Is this normal? Is it appropriate to ask my staffer to send me the letter, or are they usually private?
For what it's worth, I decided that IB wasn't for me, which is why I'm asking this question in October instead of August - applying to corp finance jobs less competitive groups at BBs. I know a letter of rec from the summer will help, considering I did not get an offer.
