American in Canada?
I know there are a good amount of Canadians on this forum and could use their help.
*My first question is about which school, Duke or UVA is more well-regarded in Canada,I'm considering the MMS from Duke and the MS Commerce from UVA.
*Second, I am curious to know how the Visa situation is in Canada and how the overall job market is looking. When searching on google I came to the conclusion that it is not as difficult as visas in the UK and Europe.
*Lastly, about how many Americans hold positions in Canadian banks, very prevalent or few and far between?
Thanks.
Duke > UVa.
But why not do your masters education in Canada. McGill/Queens/Ivey.
I had thought about doing the Masters in Canada but surprisingly found tuition to be much lower in the states and for whatever reason even the best schools in Canada seem to not get a fair shake in the states.
Cant answer your Visa question - but about the job market outlook, it`s improving, but IMO the opportunities are still much better in the states or in London. I have some friends working in the Big 5 and they either transferred to the London office or move down to the states, so the tendency is not to stay here for too long.
In term of Americans holding positions in Cad firms, I can tell you I haven
t met a single one yet... as said earlier, it
s usually the other way around where Canadians would want to move else where for opps. Just curious, any particular reason why you want to move to Canada?Big 5? I do hope you know that Arthur Anderson went bankrupt 10 years ago. And then there were 4...
Thanks for the post. To be honest I would prefer to move to London or Amsterdam if I had the choice but I know visas are hell in London and I dont speak Dutch. Still considering going to LSE,Warwick or another target in the EU for London opps. I live in NY now and really want to live in another country for a while, thought Canada might be nice and considering most people have English as their first language it would be a plus.
Why Canada?
I know Canada and the US may not be night and day but I would still like to live in another country and particularly one where English is the spoken language. I also like the idea of being able to hop on a quick plane ride to see my family. I have singled out Canada as I mentioned above.
Higheck - if your goal is living in another country, I gotta say, you're not gonna get the culture shock or 'interesting because it's different' kind of feel from Canada - particularly if you're coming to Toronto, which is a much blander, but more 'multi-cultural' (we've got more races/ethnicities) version of New York...
