Any hope for a job

So I'm looking for a job in Asset Management, portfolio management, etc.

Here's my background: I'm 27, have been out of college for 3 years (started at 20) this May and had a low GPA (2.97 from FDU) because I didn't immerse myself in my schoolwork. I also worked just about full time to help pay all of my bills/expenses and played a sport. I know that doesn't matter, but I just want to give a full background here.

My degree is in accounting and I passed the level 1 CFA last June. As of my last count, I've applied to 127 jobs - yes, I keep track - over the last 6 months and haven't gotten an interview. I currently work for a very large, 3-letter insurance company in the insurance accounting client servicing department.

I've applied through job boards and I've cold called/emailed VPs, MDs, etc. Also, I'm taking level 2 in June. If I pass, does that help my prospects to any degree? I want to work in the industry more than anything but it seems out of reach.

What do you guys think? Is there any hope? And be straightforward with me. Thanks.

I mean, there are def people out there with more favorable credentials looking for the same roles. But at the same time, I've learned that who you know is way more important than anything else. So just keeping meeting people until you find someone willing to give you a chance.

One last thing about job boards. While there always seems to be some people here who claim they've gotten interviews/jobs/etc. through them, I would disregard that. They most likely had spot on resumes. Take the mentality "if it's on a job board, it's already filled". There's a whole sub-world of positions that never make their way there, and accordingly they have wayyyy less competition. Look for those.

I've been told some of the same things about job boards. I've tried some nonconventional methods. I listen to Bloomberg regularly and I've emailed people who've been interviewed asking for advice. A few have gotten back to me, but I'm obviously trying to parlay that into actually getting a job. Also, if I'm reading a financial publication and see a company name, I'll go to the website and look for someone to email.

Do you have any other suggestions? I'll try anything.
