Applying for role at BlackRock - what's the difference between "business functions"?

Hey all,

I'm applying for a job at BlackRock in the Investments business area (north america).

The application portal says for me to select a business function, and these are the options:

- Investment research

- Portfolio management

- Private markets investing

- Product strategy & solutions

- Quantitative investing

- Trading & securities lending

I'm not entirely sure what the difference between some of these functions is at a firm like BlackRock. Especially the difference between "investment research" and "portfolio management". Specifically in what the day-to-day work of a low-level analyst would be.

Can anyone help me out?
