Are we suppose to send thank you emails, after interviewing?
I never have, and I've made it to 2 PE superdays. But am I suppose to? Just got off a 1-hour call with a partner.
I didn't think it made any difference in the evaluation process... if they like me, they like me... don't want to give them the impression I'm trying to grease them up.
Am I wrong?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, sending a thank you email after an interview is generally considered a good practice. It's not just about showing gratitude but also about reaffirming your interest in the position and the firm. Here are a few points to consider:
While it's true that your qualifications and fit for the role are the most critical factors, a thank you email can be a small but significant gesture. It's unlikely to be the deciding factor, but it's a professional courtesy that can enhance your candidacy.
Regarding your specific situation, since you've made it to superdays without sending thank you emails, it's clear that your qualifications and interview performance have been strong. However, considering you've just had a significant interaction with a partner, sending a thank you note could be a good way to solidify that connection. It's not about "greasing them up," but rather about showing respect for their time and your continued interest in the opportunity.
Remember, it's about striking the right tone – appreciative and professional, without coming across as insincere or overly ingratiating.
