Background Check Advice

Hi everyone, I will be interning at a BB this coming summer, and I have just reached the stage where the bank will initiate a background check on my CV/credentials.

I am worried that the BB may not be able to obtain satisfactory proof over one of my overseas internship stints at a hospital, organized by my alma mater. The circumstances surrounding it are:

1. The internship was organized by one of my professors, who has since left my alma mater.
2. The aforementioned lecturer, who was the liaison, had ties with the hospital.
3. As a result, the internship was unpaid, and hence considered to be informal.
4. I was also not made to sign any contract of employment while at the overseas hospital.
5. This internship was a supplement to an overseas volunteer programme, and hence likely to be off the official records from my school as well.

Considering these facts, one would expect my records to be non-existent at the hospital, should the BB attempt to reach out to it.

Hence, may I ask for advice on what I should do/obtain for proof?

(I was wondering if it would be sufficient if I can obtain a letter written and signed by the head of my diploma programme, that certifies the internship actually did occur?)

If the internship was organized by your professor, make sure you know how to reach him even if he has left your school. I'm not 100% sure how background checks work, but I feel if they find a discrepancy they might ask you for a reference to confirm.

I had an informal internship at UBS and had it on my resume and made it through a background check without any issues even though they had no record of me ever actually working there, if it makes you feel any better.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I see! Thank you for the info!

The BB I'm getting an offer from, actually uses a 3rd party firm to conduct background checks (not sure if this reveals which BB it is, but doesn't matter lol). Based on the impression I have from online sources, it seems like it is almost guaranteed they will check every work experience declared for authenticity.

Also, I have just managed to request for a letter from the Head of my diploma programme, that states/certifies that I indeed underwent the internship. I am unsure if this is enough, since it is not derived from the overseas hospital itself.

I certainly do not wish to have my offer rescinded just because I declared an obscure internship =/

I suspect no reputable university would ever risk their reputation to lie for one student to get an internship, so their confirmation (especially since they did in fact set up the internship) should be more than enough.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Man I just realized I have another issue.

It has got to do with the job title of a short part-time job I had. Officially, I realized that the title is called "Business Caller" (With the actual job role for calling businesses to conduct a government-linked survey, and data entry of the results into the system).

With no intention to inflate job titles whatsoever, I had put it down as "research assistant", since it was work for a research officer, and one HR executive has also used this term interchangeably in her emails to me before I started (I still have the actual email correspondence). I have however, properly stated the job description. Will I get dinged for this?
