Background check - internship location question

About to go through background check for SA. One of my internships on my resume was an unpaid remote internship. I listed the location as the nearest office location (the city I was mostly in at the time) to where I was and the only office in the country and didn't specify that it was remote. Somewhat worrying that this might be an issue in the background check process. Should I call HR to clear things up incase it becomes an issue? Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally a good idea to be proactive about potential discrepancies in your background check. If the internship was indeed remote and you were not physically present at the office location you listed, it could potentially raise questions during the verification process. Here's what you could consider doing:

  • Contact HR Proactively: Reach out to HR and explain the situation before the background check begins. Clarify that while the internship was remote, you listed the nearest office location for simplicity, but you were not physically present there.

  • Update Your Resume: If possible, update your resume to reflect that the internship was remote. This can prevent any confusion for future applications.

  • Documentation: If you have any emails or documentation that indicate the internship was remote, have them ready in case you need to provide proof.

  • Honesty is Key: Always be honest about your work experience. If asked, explain the situation truthfully and provide context.

Remember, the goal is to avoid any appearance of dishonesty or misrepresentation. Clearing up small details before they become issues can demonstrate your integrity and attention to detail.
